Product Review: The Face Shop Face It Power Perfection BB Cream

The Face Shop Face It Power Perfection BB Cream
BB cream has been a part of my routine since it became a hype. BB cream got me covered during the many mornings when I am in a hurry. It's a great starter product if you're hesitant to try heavy duty makeup. It is also great for lazy girls who want to look good minus the hassles. If you're still not a BB cream user, why don't you give it a try?

In this post, I am going to give my impressions about a BB cream I've purchased months ago. My old BB cream, The Face Shop Face It Aqua Tinted BB Cream, was already used up. I was planning to purchase it again but the store ran out of the light beige shade. Instead of going home empty-handed, I bought another product from the same line, The Face Shop Face It Power Perfection BB Cream. Unlike the Aqua Tinted BB cream, Power Perfection BB cream comes in two sizes. The larger size is a bit more expensive than my previous BB cream so I bought the smaller size (I was feeling very frugal). Let's see how this product fares.

Review:

The small-size version of Power Perfection BB cream comes in a slender tube with an easy-to-control pump. A little pump releases a few amount, which is pretty economical. A few squirts are all you needed anyway.

The product is a light beige color and has a slightly runny and non-sticky texture. There is a faint powdery scent that is not overpowering.

The BB cream feels really light and non-greasy which goes nicely with my oily skin. Although it already has sun protection, I still apply sunscreen before the BB cream. With or without a layer of moisturizer/sunscreen, I didn't see any difference in terms of the BB cream's appearance on my skin.

The BB cream's runny texture made it difficult to set in. With this BB cream, it's better to apply little by little with a tapping motion. That way, it would less likely form a clump on the rough areas. Make sure to blend well and use only a little amount as the product tends to leave powdery traces along lines and rough areas.

The BB cream has light coverage. It effectively minimizes my dark circle under the eyes as well as some acne spots. It appears light from the start but slowly adapts to my skin tone after setting in. The end-result appearance is semi-matte. Despite its lightweight formula, I still needed to blot a couple of times during the day.

I noticed that the longer I'm wearing this, the more natural-looking it appears. So at the end of the day, my skin appeared to be brighter and healthier. However, this only applies during my fair skin days. When my skin is peeling badly, a close up look would reveal some pigments from the product. Also, despite its ability to minimize redness from my acne, the bumps can still be seen, making the rough surface appear as it is.

This may be subjective: After using the product for a while, I noticed that my bare skin appeared softer and smoother. BB creams, after all, function as a skin care product as well.

Swatch:

Here's a swatch of the BB cream:

With flash. This is what happens if I don't blend the BB cream well.

Again, with flash, this time blending the product more carefully.

Pros:
- has sun protection
- water-based and lightweight, perfect for oily skin
- travel-friendly, hygienic, user-friendly container (for the 20ml tube)
- natural look
- evens out skin tone
- did not cause breakouts

Cons:
- comes in two shades only
- takes time to set in
- doesn't moisturize very much, dry-skinned people should moisturize before using this BB cream
- white cast

Bottom Line:
This BB cream is working its wonders when it comes to hiding dark spots and evening out my skin tone. It also reduces redness but does not fully cover my acne (you would need to add a layer of concealer for that). This is a great product if you only have a few skin problems and simply wants a basic BB cream + skin care product. If you want a heavy coverage, though, this product may not be enough. Will I buy this again? Sure, it's lightweight so it's great for everyday use. But if I can find a better product that can have better oil control, I might just ditch this.
